90D HDMI Output

Canon 90D LCD Screen

Canon 90D LCD Screen

On the Canon 90D, the screen shuts down when an external monitor is plugged into the HDMI port.
Can this be overridden? eg. Have both the Camera Screen and Monitor both working without the Camera screen being deactivated?
Is there an item in the menu that can do this?

Thanks for the question about the 90D LCD turning off when you hook up an external monitor via the HDMI port.

No, to the best of my knowledge (no personal experience doing this), you cannot have the video signal sent to two viewers at the same time. There is no setting in the 90D menu to facilitate viewing on both screens.

Thanks,
Bruce

Yes it can, perhaps not at the time of original article.

There is an option under Menu>3 called HDMI info disp. You can select that, and then select "clean out", which will show either 4k or 1080.

I'm doing it as I type this. In my case, I'm running the hdmi out, and I can see the camera screen and the output screen on at the same time. Also, focus and other things work too.

Where as in my 80Ds, it won't do this, and you have to press "info" until nothing shows on the camera screen in order to do hdmi clean out. But in the 80D, you have to be in manual focus, etc. and of course the camera screen goes black.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover this on the 90D, which I just bought this week (Nov 2020).
