"What is the best (Canon) lens for close range action shots? Sports and fitness?"
Thanks for your question about the best Canon lens for close action photos. Also very important in shooting fast action shots is how sophisticated of a focusing system your camera has as well as how many frames per second it can shoot.
Any lens will work for close action shots that isn't too long, a lens that is not too powerful of a telephoto magnification. The Canon 100-400mm Lens is a good sports/action lens, but it's better for more distant subjects.
Your question also has "fitness" as a type of photography that you want to do. If you're shooting indoors where there is less light, you also need to use a Fasts Lens in order to get a fast shutter speed to freeze the action.
Feel free to comment back if you want to be more specific in what specific action photography you need a new Canon lens for.
Good Luck,
Bruce
