"Hi Bruce, I’m taking a trip to Africa for a photo safari. I am not an experienced photographer, so I’m looking for a lightweight camera that will produce great images on the move in a safari vehicle with some/most animals at a distance. Do you have a recommendation? Many thanks!"

Thanks for asking about a Canon camera for taking on your photo safari trip to Africa. I recommend you read this article for starters: Best Travel Canon Camera, as well as this short post: APS-C Travel Lenses. I'm not sure of your total budget for cameras and lenses and if you have any lenses already.

You'll likely want to avoid a full frame Canon DSLR camera to keep the size of your camera somewhat smaller and lighter. The EOS M series of cameras have a very limited lens selection and I wouldn't recommend a camera without a built-in viewfinder.

Depending on your budget I might suggest the 90D or the R7.

Best Canon Lens For Safari

Just as important, perhaps even more important, is your choice for lenses you take along. For the safari photos, you need the reach of a longer, heavier lens with more magnification.
